Medical weight loss marketing: how to fill your GLP-1 program

GLP-1 medications changed the revenue math for aesthetic clinics almost overnight. Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy — patients are asking for these by name, and clinics that added weight management programs early are now seeing volumes that rival their injectable bookings. The clinics that waited are scrambling to catch up, and most have no plan for marketing it.

We work with aesthetic clinics and nurse injectors across Toronto and Canada, and medical weight loss marketing comes up in almost every conversation right now. Every clinic owner sees the demand. Few know how to turn it into booked consultations. The search competition for most local keywords is still thin.

Why medical weight loss needs its own marketing

Weight management patients are not your Botox patients. They are not scrolling Instagram looking for before-and-afters. (We wrote about which treatments are worth advertising at length.) They are searching Google at 11pm, reading clinical studies, comparing Mounjaro against Ozempic, and looking for a practitioner who will not judge them. These patients carry more anxiety into the search than almost any other group you serve.

  • Different patient psychology. Weight loss patients carry years of failed diets and broken promises from the wellness industry. They are skeptical. Your marketing needs to lead with clinical credibility and real outcomes, not glossy aesthetics.
  • Longer decision cycle. Most patients research GLP-1 medications for weeks before they contact a clinic. They read about side effects, cost, eligibility, and what to expect. If your site does not answer those questions, someone else’s will.
  • Higher lifetime value. A medical weight loss patient on a GLP-1 protocol stays with you for months or years. At $300 to $600 per month for medication management, a single patient can generate $3,600 to $7,200 in the first year. Many also cross over into your aesthetic services once they reach their goals.

The search landscape for medical weight loss

Patient-facing search terms dominate: “Ozempic clinic near me,” “Mounjaro for weight loss,” “medical weight loss [city],” “GLP-1 weight loss cost.” These queries have exploded since 2023 and most local markets are still underserved by clinic content. National health publications rank for the broad informational terms, but local clinics can own the geo-modified queries that actually drive bookings.

The B2B side is smaller but valuable. Clinic owners searching “medical weight loss marketing” or “how to market GLP-1 services” are looking for exactly the kind of guidance this article covers. That is a signal that most clinics offering these services have not figured out the marketing piece yet.

What your medical weight loss page needs

A services page that says “we offer Ozempic” is not marketing. Patients searching for medical weight loss want specific answers before they will book a consultation.

  • Medication options explained. Which GLP-1s do you prescribe? What is the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide? Patients want to know what they are getting and why you chose it for your practice. Name the medications. Vague references to “weight loss injections” make you sound like you are hiding something.
  • Transparent pricing. Even a range. “Starting at $X/month” removes the single biggest barrier to booking. Clinics that hide weight loss pricing lose patients to competitors who publish it. People will not call to ask about the cost of something they feel embarrassed about.
  • Clinical process. What happens at the first visit. How often do they come back. What monitoring do you do. What happens if the medication is not working. Weight loss patients want a plan, not a prescription.
  • Eligibility criteria. BMI thresholds, contraindications, what a candidate looks like. Patients self-screen before they call. Give them the information to do it.
We have watched the same pattern repeat: the clinic with the most detailed weight loss page gets the calls, even when the clinic down the road charges less.

Google Business Profile for weight management

List “medical weight loss” and “GLP-1 weight management” as distinct services on your Google Business Profile. Do not bury it under a generic “wellness” category. Add posts about your weight management program regularly. Respond to reviews that mention weight loss by name. Google uses service categories and review content to determine which profiles appear in local map pack results for weight-related searches.

Photo strategy matters here too. Clinical environment photos (consultation rooms, monitoring equipment, your team) perform better than lifestyle stock images for weight management. Patients want to see a medical setting, not a spa.

Content that drives weight loss patients

Two content formats consistently pull medical weight loss traffic.

Comparison content. “Ozempic vs Mounjaro,” “Wegovy vs Zepbound,” “semaglutide vs tirzepatide for weight loss.” Patients actively compare medications before choosing a clinic. These articles rank well because most results come from pharma companies or news outlets, not local practitioners. A clinic that publishes honest, clinical comparisons positions itself as the trusted source.

Cost-and-eligibility content. “How much does Mounjaro cost in Canada,” “am I eligible for GLP-1 weight loss,” “what BMI do I need for Ozempic.” These are high-intent queries. The person searching has already decided they want medical weight loss. They are looking for the logistics. Answer those logistics on your site and you become the default choice.

Paid ads for medical weight loss

Google Ads for medical weight loss keywords require careful compliance. Google restricts advertising for prescription medications in many markets. You can advertise the service (medical weight loss consultations, weight management programs) without naming specific drugs in ad copy. The landing page can mention medications freely.

CPCs for medical weight loss keywords in Canada run $3 to $8, which is competitive but reasonable given the patient lifetime value. Run a dedicated campaign separate from your aesthetic services. The messaging, landing pages, and conversion tracking should all be isolated. Weight loss patients do not respond to the same creative that works for Botox or fillers.

Facebook and Instagram ads work for awareness but face the same pharmaceutical advertising restrictions. Lead with educational content (short videos explaining the consultation process, patient eligibility, what to expect) rather than medication names. Build familiarity first. Convert on Google where the intent is highest.

Common mistakes

Lumping weight management into a general services page. A bullet point that says “weight loss” next to “Botox, fillers, microneedling” does not convert anyone. Weight loss patients need their own landing page with its own messaging.

Leading with the medication instead of the outcome. Patients care about losing weight and keeping it off. They care about their health, their energy, their confidence. The medication is how you get there. What patients want to hear about is where “there” is.

Then there is the missed cross-sell. Medical weight loss patients who reach their goals often become your best aesthetic patients. Build the bridge in your content and your follow-up. A patient who lost 40 pounds and now wants skin tightening or body contouring is the highest-value patient in your practice.

Frequently asked

How much does it cost to market medical weight loss services?

Google Ads CPCs for medical weight loss keywords in Canada run $3 to $8 per click. Organic SEO is more cost-effective long-term: a well-optimized landing page targeting “medical weight loss [your city]” can rank within weeks because most local competitors have not built dedicated content. The overall marketing budget depends on your market size, but most clinics see positive ROI within the first two months of a focused campaign.

Can I advertise Ozempic or Mounjaro directly?

Google restricts prescription medication advertising in most markets. You can advertise your medical weight loss program and consultations without naming specific drugs in ad copy. Your landing page can discuss medications in detail. Facebook and Instagram have similar restrictions. Lead with the service and the outcomes, not the brand names, in paid placements.

How do I differentiate my clinic from other GLP-1 providers?

Clinical credibility, transparent pricing, and content depth. Most clinics offering GLP-1 weight loss have a one-paragraph services page. Build a dedicated landing page with eligibility criteria, medication comparisons, pricing transparency, and your clinical monitoring process. Publish comparison articles and FAQ content with schema markup. The clinic that answers the most questions wins the most patients.
